How to choose: Pool Mechanical Equipment

The mechanical installation is the part of a pool you never see, yet it determines how long the pool lasts. Pump, filter, valves and pipework form one system; if a single element is wrong, the rest lose efficiency. A correctly sized installation keeps the water clear, lowers running cost and reduces maintenance.

Volume and turnover time
The full water volume should pass the filter every 4–6 hours; pump flow is sized to that target.
Variable speed or single speed
Variable-speed pumps run at low RPM for most of the day and cut energy use markedly.
Filter type and surface area
Sand, glass media or cartridge; a larger surface area means less frequent backwashing.
Hydraulic balance
Pipe diameter, suction/return lines and valve layout let the pump deliver its rated performance on site.
